SERENDIPITY

SERENDIPITY(n)- The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

It was by absolute luck or chance that this horse entered my life. "Ellie" or "Ellie Marie" was a Pennsylvania Bred Quidam De Revel mare out of Carlotta 13. Ellie entered my life just before Christmas in 2010. My family was taking a trip to Egypt over the holiday. My horses needs have always come ahead of my own. So instead of seeing the pyramids in person, I got in a truck for what I thought would be a quick trip to VA and straight back to PA. It was to pick up three young horses who had just been backed and broke, when we got quickly re-routed to pick up Miss Ellie. A week prior to this trip I stood in the barn where I was keeping Superboy and told the barn owner that my next horse was going to be a gray mare. As fate would have it, a week later I owned Ellie. Serendipity was the most appropriate name for her show career.

I competed Ellie in the young hunter under saddle classes at Ludwig's Corner Horse Show several years. We showed together at Devon for the first time beginning in 2012- a day I had dreamed of for a decade. We were Fifth in the Mares Suitable to Produce Hunters that year and fifth in the Young Hunter Under Saddle, section B out of 21 entries.  I rode her to fourth and she stood up fifth to finish. I was interviewed by the Daily Local News. I moved up to show her in the Pre-Adults at Quentin Fall Classic a few months later and competed her up to the Younger Amateur Owner's the several years that followed. 

Ellie's show career was cut short early in her life due to an injury, but she enjoyed plenty of trail riding and jumping natural logs out in the Cheshire Hunt Country. She will be forever missed as she's responsible for kickstarting my professional hunter/jumper career.
