WHAT IS LEASING?
Leasing can be a great precursor for horse ownership. A lease allows a rider to build not only a bond with a particular horse, but the opportunity to work on specific skills with a consistent partner. Leasing versus owning can also be good for young riders as they often grow quickly in both stature and skill and often need a different mount before they graduate high school. Leasing versus owning also allows a rider to try different disciplines with different horses in a shorter length of time.

- A lease can be structured as 3, 6, or 12 months with yearly leases being the most common.
- Leases can occur on-farm (the horse is stabled/remains at its "home" barn with your instructor) or off-farm (the horse is owned by someone and brought to your trainer's barn for the duration of the lease).
- Leases range from being a half-lease (3 days per week) to a full lease (6 days per week). Horses typically have one day off per week as required in most lease terms.
- A lessee can anticipate paying the board for the horse for the length of the lease term as well as shoes and medical.
- Some lease agreements require the lease fee paid upfront. Other leases allow monthly installments.
- Most lease agreements require the horse be insured for major medical and mortality while on lease, on or off farm property at the lessee's expense.

HoneyBun is a name local announcers have been calling for years to the winners circle. A junior riders first pony, HoneyBun taught her owner the ropes in several disciplines including Eventing, Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation. She has attended many paperchases locally, having crossed water and bridges. HoneyBun was the ultimate first pony for her owner, truly preparing her for success from Pony Club all the way to IEA Nationals.
With a fantastic jump, she’s been in the ribbons over fences many times. HoneyBun has always gotten a piece of the hack too. Now, sadly outgrown, HoneyBun is teaching the next generation of young riders at Grand Slam. Growing up side by side with her owner, to being able to share your first pony with others has become a full circle moment. HoneyBun's resume is quite extensive and her experience is ready to take your child straight to the winner's circle! HoneyBun is currently available for an on-farm, full or half lease at Grand Slam Equestrian.
